Food challenge 2: Kat vs Hummingbird Bakery

Finish baking my way through the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook

I started baking my way through the first Hummingbird Bakery book around two years ago and rapidly ploughed forwards through the first section - cupcakes - until I reached Green Tea cupcakes; my stumbling block. They tasted so vile and looked so horrible it stopped me in my tracks and I wonder if I didn't do something wrong as there's no way what I came up with belonged on the pages of a leading bakery's seminal text:

The offending article: Green tea horror!
Eventually I located my cupcake mojo but the momentum was lost and I am keen to push on through past cupcakes, on to cakes, pies, brownies and bars, muffins and cookies to the culinary finish line.

It's worth mentioning that in the meantime Hummingbird have published 'Cake Days' - an amazing sequel with a much wider variety and appeal and stylistically a vast improvement. Unlike the original it has been designed and written with the home, not the commercial kitchen in mind and everything looks stunning but manageable. I of course own this piece of food porn too and can wholehartedly recommend the Chocolate Guinness cake and the Apple Streusel cake (I will get round to putting the recipies up some time!).

Back to the original... I've one more cupcake recipe to try and now I have a shiny new food blog I think it's about time I put my money where my mouth is! The oven is fired up and ready and the milk is infusing with ginger, so bring on the ginger cupcakes...

Ginger cupcake for breakfast? Yes thank you very much. Despite your reservations I thought it was delicious! Sticky, sweet, mountains of frosting. What more could you ask for to start the day with a sugar-filled bang! Thanks!
